The Founding of AEW

The genesis of AEW can be traced back to the summer of 2017, when Cody Rhodes, a former WWE Superstar, began to tease a new wrestling promotion on social media. Rhodes was soon joined by other former WWE wrestlers, including The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Kenny Omega. Together, they formed The Elite, a group of wrestlers who were dissatisfied with the creative direction of WWE.

In May 2019, The Elite announced that they were launching a new wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling. AEW was backed by the financial resources of Tony Khan, who is also the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars football team.

The Early Years

AEW held its first pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing, in May 2019. The event was a success, drawing over 100,000 pay-per-view buys. AEW followed up with a successful weekly television show, Dynamite, which debuted on TNT in October 2019.

AEW's early years were marked by a number of high-profile signings, including former WWE Superstars Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Brodie Lee. AEW also developed a reputation for its innovative and often groundbreaking wrestling style.

The Wednesday Night Wars

In October 2019, AEW's Dynamite began airing on Wednesdays, the same night as WWE's NXT. This led to a ratings war between the two companies, known as the "Wednesday Night Wars."

The Wednesday Night Wars were a closely fought battle, with both AEW and NXT drawing strong ratings. AEW ultimately won the ratings war, with Dynamite consistently outdrawing NXT in viewership.

The Pandemic Era

The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the wrestling industry, as it did on all other sports and entertainment businesses. AEW was forced to cancel live events and operate without fans in attendance for much of 2020 and 2021.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, AEW continued to produce high-quality wrestling shows. The company also made a number of key signings during this time, including former WWE Superstars CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole.

The Present and Future

In 2022, AEW is one of the most popular professional wrestling promotions in the world. The company has a strong roster of talented wrestlers, a passionate fan base, and a bright future.

AEW is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery for a new television deal. The company is also planning to launch a new streaming service in 2023.

All Elite Wrestling has had a short but powerful history. The company has quickly risen to prominence as a competitor to WWE, and has made a significant impact on the wrestling industry. AEW is a company with a bright future, and is poised to continue to grow in the years to come.
