History of the Tournament of Champions

The TOC was first played in 1953 as the "PGA Hawaii Open." The tournament was renamed the "Tournament of Champions" in 1963. The TOC was originally played at the Waialae Country Club on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The tournament moved to the Plantation Course at Kapalua Resort in 1999.

Format of the Tournament of Champions

The TOC is a 72-hole, stroke-play tournament. The tournament field is limited to 30 players. The winner of the TOC receives the "Champion Golfer of the Year" trophy. The TOC is the first of the four major championships on the PGA Tour schedule.
